Cash-strapped Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is taking a savings route to cut down its expenses. To reduce the monthly cost, the company has installed solar panels at its headquarters, zonal and circle offices. In collaboration with Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TS REDCO), it installed solar rooftop panels at 34 locations last year.
Two or three offices are already getting Zero Power Bill saving 14,11,500 units (about Rs 1.27 crore), officials said. The officials say self-sufficiency in power will be achieved through solar power generation next year. The installation of LED lights across the Greater is saving Rs 300 crore on electricity bills.
The corporation is also targeting 100% of LED lighting in the coming days. Along with savings in the power bills, these efforts will also result in promoting clean and green energy. The corporation has broad plans of reaching their own demand and then start pumping power to the grid after their needs are met in the coming days.
