The record number of weddings in Telangana has helped the cash-deprived TSRTC (Telangana State Road Transport Corporation) generate record revenues. According to the reports, the corporation has earned over Rs 14 crore a single day, which has been the highest in recent years.
Reports suggest that on November 22, RTC raked in Rs 14.06 crore, with the State seeing a whopping seven lakh marriages on a single day. Buses were operated by the corporation covering 34.6 lakh kilometers on the day, registering an occupancy ratio of 77.06% and Rs 40.65 earnings per km. This is the highest in the last few years.
As per a senior official, the bus services and earnings were greatly affected during the two phases of Covid. The revenues saw a dip even during the Dussehra rush, where regular fares instead of 50% additional fares were collected in special buses.
The official said that the corporation earned around Rs 252 crore this November, which is 50% more than the previous year's corresponding month's earnings.
The official also added that the fear of corona is on the decline among passengers, and the occupancy ratio has gone up this year compared to the last year. While the occupancy ratio during this period in the previous year was 54.43, this year, it has increased to 66.25%. He further said that the average earnings per day for the RTC were Rs 10 to Rs 12 crore, and the occupancy ratio was around 66%, which fluctuated on different days.
"If TSRTC has to survive, the occupancy ratio should be around 77% every day, and the revenue should be approximately Rs 14 crore, which is most unlikely in the next few months. He also urged people to opt for traveling in RTC buses due to the safety and increasing fuel prices factors.
