The government has come up with a new policy for those coming from risk-free countries in the wake of an increasing number of omicron variant cases. So far only two percent are being randomly selected by the authorities and their samples are being sent for RT-PCR testing. Afterward, they are going home. It is becoming harder to identify them once they get positive.

More and more positive cases are coming from those who come from non-risk countries declared by the central government. However, Telangana Medical Health Department has ordered that samples be taken from everyone landing at the Hyderabad airport from risk-free countries and they should be stopped in the airport itself until the results arrive. This rule came into force on Sunday.

Passengers, however, says these are airport arrests something on the lines of house arrests. The bitter experiences of the last two weeks are the reason for this change. Authorities found that the passengers were cleverly giving false phone numbers and false addresses. This made it a headache to catch people who turned out to be omicron positive. Tracing them is going to take a lot of time. According to the World Health Organization, the Omicron type is spreading six times faster than the Delta type.

So passengers will now have to undergo the RT-PCR test after landing at the Hyderabad airport and wait there until the result comes out. The same rule will apply to those who disembark at Hyderabad airport and board another flight. If positive, they are moved to TIMS Gachibowli for treatment. So far, the number of corona omicron cases has reached 153 across the country. In Telangana, it has increased to 20.
