Hyderabad
Road accidents in the city have dropped drastically this year. When compared to the last four years, there has been a sharp decline in the limits of the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate this year. There were 2,367 road accidents in 2017, 2,540 in 2018, 2,493 in 2019 and 1,657 in 2021. Road accidents have decreased as city police have taken more action against traffic management compared to the past.
The areas where road accidents are most prevalent have been examined and the possible causes have been identified and action has been taken. Also, the police are dealing harshly if motorists violate traffic rules. Vehicles are being seized and cases are being registered against them and they are being sent to jail. They are also being strict with drunk and driving cases. In addition to imposing hefty fines, 'attempt to murder' cases are also being registered.
Police are sending people to jail for driving under the influence of alcohol. So far 237 people have been killed in road accidents in the city. Of these, 178 died due to speeding, 13 due to drunk driving, 10 due to incorrect driving, 6 due to minor driving, 24 due to careless and reckless driving. City police often conduct special drives and register cases against motorists violating the regulations. A special drive conducted by the city police from the 4th to the 12th of this month registered cases against 1,66,010 motorists for violating the regulations.
