Stand-up comedy is huge in India right now and some names are an instant hit with the audience. One name that has made headlines in the recent past has been Munawar Faruqui. While his talent has taken over the audience, some of his sentences have rubbed the right-wing vigilantes the wrong way. Even as the controversy goes on, in a recent comment MA & UD minister KTR has said that comedians like Munawar Faruqui and Kunal Kamra are welcome to perform in Hyderabad.
Now, Munawar Faruqui will be performing on January 9 in the city, though the venue hasn’t been decided as yet. The tickets are available on Bookmyshow.com and are priced at Rs 799. If one goes back a little in time, Munawar Faruqui’s shows in Bengaluru were stalled after threats of vandalism by right wing activists.
They insist that some of the things that Munawar said during his shows were derogatory to a religion. However, Munawar maintains that there was nothing insulting in his shows and that his audience his lines. Now, Munawar has taken to his instagram account to announce his show Dhandho in Hyderabad and he wrote, ‘Tickets in BIO miyan’.
Minister KTR made it clear that they would not cancel shows in city of Nizams just because they ‘we are not aligned with them politically’. KTR’s invitation came three weeks after Faruqui’s November show was cancelled in Bengaluru after the police denied permission. Apart from Bengaluru, his shows in Gujarat, Gurgaon, Chattisgarh and Goa too were cancelled following threats.
At Bengaluru, 600 odd tickets were sold before his show was cancelled. Munawar took to twitter and said that the show was a charity show, the proceeds of which would have gone for Puneet Rajkumar’s initiatives. Meanwhile, Munawar has been quite vocal about being put in jail for jokes he did not say and cancelling his shows was real bad. He wrote, “My name is Munawar Faruqui and that’s been my time. You guys were a wonderful audience. Goodbye. I’m done,” he said.
But, looks like the show is set to begin once again for Munawar Faruqui.
