Telangana state has reported 14 cases of Omicron, and the total tally of new variant cases happens to be 38. Of the 14 new cases, two passengers had come from the United Kingdom categorized as ‘at risk’ nation. Subsequently, with the festive season around the corner, the High Court of Telangana has directed the state government to impose a lockdown to stop people gathering in large numbers on streets to celebrate.
The instruction was given to cover both Christmas and New Year, and it comes a day after Telangana reported 14 Omicron cases. On the other hand, India’s tally of Omicron cases rose to 236, of which 104 people have recovered or migrated back to their countries as per reports by the union ministry of health.
In fact, there have been rumors floating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is contemplating imposing a lockdown across the country to stop people from turning up in hordes to celebrate New Year. On December 23, 2021, Maharashtra recorded a maximum number of cases at 65, followed by Telangana at 24 and Karnataka at 19. Rajasthan had reported 21 cases, and Kerala reported 15.
Unfortunately, as per the latest data, India recorded 7495 new cases of coronavirus infections taking the total number up to 3,47,65,976. The active cases numbered 78,291. The death toll stands at 4,78,759.
Prime Minister Modi will be holding a high-level meeting at 6.30 pm today regarding the issue, and he will be briefed about the situation. He is likely to take a decision post-meeting.
