Commuters are fuming at the restrictions on the traffic imposed on Tank Bund even after the cancellation of the 'Sunday Funday' event for the rise in Covid cases. It was witnessed that the traffic cops were enforcing diversions from 5 pm to 10 pm on Sunday. A traffic police official said that these restrictions were imposed to enable people to walk freely on the stretch without the fear of vehicles.
The public, however, faced traffic congestion while detouring and found the restrictions pointless. One of the private employees says that it takes him around 20 minutes to reach SD Road from Basheerbagh, but because of the needless restrictions on Tank Bund, it takes around 45 minutes.
A software employee from Ranigunj was cribbing that curbing traffic even when there is no Sunday Funday event is resulting in more crowd on the road. It s not helping in controlling the spread of Covid. The government has asked people to avoid gatherings, and then they are suffering in such situations.
One of the cab drivers from Malakpet said that there are multiple roadblocks near the Tank Bund circle, which is causing inconvenience for the drivers and passengers.
He also added that people traveling across the twin cities have to cross the Tank Bund stretch or have to take the longer route via Lakdikapul. Many thought that since Sunday events were canceled, traffic flow would be smooth. These restrictions, however, are causing jams at other junctions. In Old City, too, the 'Ek Shyam-Charminar Ke Naam' program was canceled amid new fears of virus contamination.
Arvind Kumar, Principal Secretary of Municipal administration, said that once the situation returned to normalcy, the events would be revived.
