In the latest guidelines issued by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the morning walkers will have lesser time to walk around the parks within GHMC limits. The civic body has cut down one hour in the parks’ timings in seven parks that include Imbliban Park, Indira Park, K Laxminarayana Yadav Park, Jalagam Vengal Rao Park, Chacha Nehru Park, Krishna Kant Park, and AS Rao Nagar Park.

And to top it all, the GHMC has decided to charge Rs 10,000... yes, you read that right, for carrying cameras into the parks. Added to this, it has also been mentioned that the corporation has the right to send anyone out of the park if they cause inconvenience to visitors. While many are already upset with this ‘inconvenience’ clause, there are others who are dead against the Rs 10,000 charge.

If one goes back a little, in August, the management of Indira Park put up a banner stating that unmarried couples were not allowed entry into the park. However, following social media posts, the banner was brought down, and the GHMC maintained that the banner was put up by junior officials.

However, in the recent tender documents by contractors, the GHMC has asked them to maintain “Any activity which will cause inconvenience to visitors to the park will not be allowed.” Also, in fresh tenders, GHMC has cut down the time for morning walkers from 5 am to 8 am as against 5 am to 9 am in the past, where they were allowed entry without a fee.

Also, in the latest tenders, GHMC has decided to charge Rs 10 from 8 am to 7.30 pm and Rs 2 for children aged between 5 and 12. In the past, the fee of Rs 10,000 was waived for parks such as NTR Gardens, Lumbini Park, and Sanjeevaiah Park in October.

But now, the GHMC states that while the fee of Rs 10,000 has been waived in HMDA parks, the GHMC parks will charge the fee.
