Arvind Kumar, Special Chief Secretary of Municipal and Urban Development, has responded to a complaint received on Twitter on Saturday that there was mold on the sweets. He directed the authorities to take action on a complaint by a citizen that the sweets bought at Khajaguda Karachi Bakery were stale.
Circle Assistant Medical Officer KS Ravi and Food Contamination Control Officer Surya immediately went to the bakery and inspected it. They have examined the Bakery surroundings and the Kitchen. They have observed issues like Lack of sanitation, no proper waste disposal, use of plastics, improper sewerage system, non-compliance with COVID rules, etc.
The owner was fined Rs 10,000 on the spot. GHMC revealed that samples of sweets and other food items were collected and were sent to the laboratory. "Legal action would be taken once the result was available and if there are any deviations," the officials say. Netizens are lauding the immediate action of the GHMC but also ask to be proactive by conducting frequent raids on the eateries to ensure they maintain quality.
