Hyderabad
The number of traffic offenders in the city is increasing day by day. No matter how many cases the police register, no matter how many fines are imposed, motorists do not care about the traffic rules. Two-wheelers are majorly involved in these violations. Last year, 70,03,012 cases were registered against bike riders under the three commissionerates in Hyderabad.
Of these, over 53 lakh were cases of motorcyclists not wearing helmets. The highest number of 15.33 lakh cases was registered under the Rachakonda Commissionerate. Cyberabad police said 356 two-wheelers were killed last year due to not wearing helmets. Similarly, 25,453 cases were registered against those who drove bikes under the influence of alcohol.
Similarly, another rampant traffic violation is wrong side driving. These are the highest number of cases after helmet-related cases under the three commissionerates. In this context, the police focused on issues such as wrong routes, triple riding, and speed driving. Last year, 70 lakh cases were registered against two-wheelers under the three commissionerates in Hyderabad. In 2020, the number is 58.58 lakhs. That means around a 20% increase in the violations.
