Vegetable prices across the state have been concerning the general public for the past few months. Tomato prices have been on the rise for some time now. The price has reached 80-100 Rupees Per Kg at one point and calmed down a bit. At present, retail prices in Hyderabad are around Rs 40 to Rs 60 per kg.
The prices of other vegetables are also bothering the common man. The price of Broad Beans is Rs 100 per kg and ladyfinger is Rs 80 per kg. As for the rest of the vegetables, it is Rs 50 per kg for potatoes, Rs 50 per kg for gokara, and Rs 50 to 60 per kg for Ridgeguard. Carrot is trending at 80 Rupees per kg for around four months now.
Traders say prices have risen as imports to markets have plummeted due to crop failure two months ago due to rains. A wide variety of vegetables are still not reaching the markets. Even though some vegetables are coming in small quantities, the prices are very high. With this, the common people are unable to purchase them looking at their prices.
