Even as various projects are underway in Hyderabad city, the government has now shifted its focus to the twin city of Secunderabad. The iconic MG Road and its surroundings will be undergoing a massive make-over in the days to come. Various initiatives have been taken up by the civic authorities to enhance the aesthetics of the area.
Animal Husbandry Minister T Srinivas Yadav, along with MA & UD chief secretary Arvind Kumar, went around the stretch that falls under Ramgopalpet division and area where there is Mahatma Gandhi statue and has decided upon a massive beautification drive.
A new Mahatma Gandhi statue will be built near the old Mahatma Gandhi statue, which will be in meditating position similar to the statue in front of the state assembly. The entire surrounding area will be given a new look with gazebos, seating arrangements, and incorporating ample greenery.
According to a GHMC official, a part of the road/ land near the present Gandhi statue will be purchased and beautified. Footpaths, a security cabin, a small library, an entrance, sitting arrangements, food courts, landscaping with seating arrangements, and restrooms will be part of the project. Special focus is on footpaths and their development, says T Rohit of Prayoga Architects, who designed the beautification project.
Meanwhile, the GHMC officials state that they are doing every bit to make the area functionally beautiful and also add some recreational facilities on MG Road. The government will also take up beautification of James Street, which will include various activities such as paved pathways, the inclusion of lots of greenery, and creatively designed elements at various spots.
