A software employee was killed when his bike went out of control and fell from the recently opened Shaikpet flyover. According to Rayadurg police, Preetam Bhardwaj, 25, of Adityanagar, Kurnool, lives in Padmaraonagar, Secunderabad, and works as a software employee in the IT corridor.
On Friday night, he was on his way to Mehedipatnam on his two-wheeler when he lost control of the Rayadurg flyover and collided with a railing. He was rushed to hospital in a 108 vehicle by locals and was pronounced brought dead. Although Bhardwaj was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, his belt was not locked. Police are investigating the case.
Meanwhile, his relatives say a different story. "It was evident that something hit him from the right. Else, he wouldn't be thrown up into the air for about 35 to 40 meters from the impact. He was hit with a signboard (which was welded to the so-called barricade) which broke apart. He fell from the height of 3 storied buildings. There were CCTV cameras at the start and end of the flyover but not sure whether they work or not cause no footage has been out yet. We suspect he might have been hit by a car," the victim's cousin, Kashyap says.
It is to be noted that the newly built flyover had barricaded with extra height at places that were supposed to prevent such accidents. But the barricades were absent at the curve where this accident happened. The victim Preetam Bhardwaj pledged to donate his eyes to LV Prasad Eye Institute.
