Hyderabad Metro has become the first Metro in the country to sanitize the coaches with ozone-based sanitizers. They have become the first in the nation to use this method to make sure that the Metro is not contaminated.
It has procured three portable Ozycare Mobizone units to sanitize the coaches for building confidence among passengers for safe travel during COVID times. Till now, sanitization of air and surface by ozone has been widely used in hospitals, healthcare, food processing facilities, and for disinfection of water, as per appropriate guidelines.
Hyderabad Metro has conducted rigorous testing of the equipment on various metro coaches for the past few months, followed by testing the efficacy of the sanitization by a NABL accredited lab. The units can neutralize about 90 percent of pathogens from the air and surface of the coaches.
Metro wants people to use it as a safe means of transportation once they start full services. Hyderabad Metro has three coaches on every train. As per the process, the individual machines are kept and operated in each coach for sanitization. Ozycare Mobizone Machines are handled in a controlled environment to sanitize the train coaches.
As per sanitization protocol, the ozone cycle lasts for 10 minutes, and this is followed by an ozone destruction cycle that ensures post sanitization safety as per Occupational Safety and Health Administration norms. The machine sanitizes 99 percent of the pathogens from ambient air and surface. Also, since the distribution happens in gaseous form, it penetrates the gaps and hidden crevices that are hard to sanitize. No rinse is required as it does not leave any residual on the surface.
