Telangana government is planning to introduce two RRTS (Regional Rapid Transit System) corridors to connect Hyderabad to Warangal and Vijayawada. The first one will connect Hyderabad to Warangal and another will connect Hyderabad to Vijayawada. The project is similar to the under-construction RRTS corridors in the National Capital Region (NCR).
The RRTS will be different from the conventional railway as it will provide reliable, high-frequency, point-to-point regional travel at a high speed of 180kmph along a dedicated pathway. The RRTS is also different from Metro and conventional suburban railway as it caters to passengers looking to travel longer distances.
The senior officials from various departments are planning to visit Delhi soon to study the features of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor. They will also visit Kerala, Odisha, and other States to study transit-oriented development. Union Government is partially funding these projects in NCR by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), a joint venture company of the Central government and the States of Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi. Telangana Government is also planning a similar model to tap funds from the Central Government.
