Hyderabad
Many IT employees from Hyderabad who thrived on human interaction to think creatively have missed out on it all thanks to the Covid-led work from home (WFH) model. Now, after months of molding themselves to the new normal of virtual meetings, many are finding it tough to go back to the office.
Many techies say that they have got used to waking up just half an hour before their office hours. Although they miss interacting with their colleagues, this new routine gave them the freedom to explore other interests and also saved them from traffic hassles.
There are others as well who would want to go back to the office. For many of them who have children at home, juggling work and home are becoming difficult, and they want work flexibility.
Certain kinds of job roles have completely gone remote in the post-pandemic world, and certain others require a flexible working model. The pros and cons of the WFH model might differ as per their job role, yet organizations are looking at making a hybrid work model more efficient.
Pros of remote roles:
The WFH model offers employees to choose their workplace, thus helping them save money on transportation, rent, and other lifestyle costs. The WFH model helps the companies have a happier workforce and also allows them to utilize their physical spaces in a more efficient way. According to Sashi Kumar, head of sales, Indeed India, the WFH model also helps the companies to attract talent from different parts of the world and helps them save leasing costs in terms of huge buildings.
Cons of remote roles:
Experts say that some of the most creative ideas have come through during tea breaks. For employees at the mid-management level, having a completely remote work model may not be suitable and sustainable. A total remote role might be possible in small teams, but at some point, they would also like to meet physically. For freshers, it is a disadvantage as it becomes hard for them to grow in their careers due to a lack of transactions.
Some reports also suggest that the WFH model has put a lot of pressure on techies to clock in a certain number of hours, and for women staff, it is becoming tough to maintain a work-life balance. Availability of the right infrastructure in terms of the internet, the laptop is also another big drawback.
