Hyderabad
Day and night Drunken Drive tests will be held in the city from now on. Traffic police have prepared a new action plan to catch tipplers near signals. They will be going to motorists as soon as the red signal is up and do a breath analyzer test. The special drive continues in accordance with the traffic movement and signal time. Currently, cases are being filed if the BAC (blood alcohol content) level exceeds 30 ml while being randomly checked at the main junctions.
There have been some incidents of accidents caused by alcohol intoxication in recent times during the daytime. With this, the police decided to conduct DD (Drunken Drive) tests not only at night but also during the day. It was decided that the traffic would not be disturbed if tests were done near the signals. With this, from now on, the traffic SI, which is on point duty at the signals, will be ready with the constables and breath analyzer.
Police have identified some areas where people are often caught driving vehicles under the influence of liquor. These are being treated as hot spots. Random checks are being done on the identified hot spots along with the signals. There are 18 hotspots where drunken drive cases are being filed mostly within the three commissionerates. Currently, there is a special drive in each traffic PS area from 11.30 am to 4.30 pm. Drunken Drive continues as usual from 11 pm to 4 am.
