The construction of the Botanical Garden Flyover, which is expected to be completed in two years did not finish even after four years. The construction began in 2018 and is still only 60 percent complete. Construction work is progressing very slowly and it looks like it will take another year if not more.
Work has started on the construction of a 2.2 km flyover from Kondapur to Botanical Garden Junction and underpasses at Kothaguda Junction as part of SRDP (Strategic Road Development Plan). The government has allocated Rs. 199 crore. Authorities planned to complete the flyover and underpass structures by April 2020. 4 lanes from Gachibowli to Botanical Junction, 2 lanes towards Masjid Banda, Sriramnagar Botanical Garden Junction, and a total of 5 lanes up to Kothaguda Junction. There are plans to build a 3-lane road from Kothaguda Junction to Hitech City and a 2-lane road to Hafeezpet. There is also an underpass structure on the Gachibowli - Kondapur route.
While flyover construction work is progressing very slowly, pillars are yet to be constructed at Kothaguda and Botanical Garden junctions. Pillars are finished at some places but no girders are installed on them. The case is pending in the court as the owner of the land at the turning point at the Botanical Garden signal on the route from Sriramnagar to Kothaguda has not shown interest in giving the property. The engineering official said construction of the pillars at the signal would begin if the case is resolved.
About 90 percent of the software companies in the city are located in the Kondapur, Gachibowli, and Madhapur areas. IT and other employees from Bachupally, IDA Bollaram, Miyapur, Chandanagar, Hafeezpet, Raghavendra Colony, Maitri Nagar, Janapriyanagar, Alwin Colony, Madinaguda, Deepti Srinagar areas can reach Gachibowli, Madhapur, and Kondapur from Kothaguda Junction. Barricades were erected in the middle of the road as part of the flyover works. This causes traffic jams in the morning and evening.
Employees of software companies in the IT corridor are doing work at home due to COVID. Employees of some small companies are coming to the offices. Big companies plan to open in April. If the companies are functional at 100%, the traffic jam at Kothaguda Junction will give nightmares to the motorists.
