Hyderabad
Sai Ram Pillarisetti, a youngster from Hyderabad, who is pursuing final year MBBS at the UK's University of Lancashire, was invited as a 'Health Hero' to the UK Houses of Parliament to interact with the MPs on public health issues, including the importance of foreign aid and vaccine equity.
Sai Ram Pillarisetti was the youngest medical student to participate in the interaction event at the UK House of Parliament. The event was organized on February 22 by UNICEF, Save the Children, The One Campaign (Global anti-poverty organization), and others.
Apart from the young student from Hyderabad, hospital consultant Dr. Alexa Vardy, a nurse Helen Bridges, and a general practitioner, Dr. Phillip Heywood, were also invited to the Houses of Parliament on Tuesday evening.
Speaking on the occasion, Sai Ram said that only 12% of individuals in low-income countries had at least one vaccine dose compared to 90 percent of those in high-income counties. He also added that it is highly appreciable that the Government of India launched World's largest vaccination drive in this regard.
The final year MBBS student in the UK Houses Parliament added that the only way to finish the pandemic is to ensure vaccine equity in the soonest possible time frame.
