There are about 10 thousand cyclists in the city. About three to four thousand of them use the bicycle daily for various purposes.
Cyclists are suffering due to poor maintenance of cycling tracks in the city, other vehicles going over the existing ones and some resorting to parking encroachments. A week ago, a cyclist in Gachibowli was hit by a car from behind and he died on the spot. About 400 cyclists rallied from Gachibowli to Charminar via Jubilee Hills, Panjagutta, and Necklace Road in protest.
A year ago, a cyclist who had stopped near Paradise was hit from behind by a bike. The cyclist was seriously injured. He was in the ICU for 6 months and eventually died. Apart from these, cyclists are at risk in many places. They say they do not know which vehicle will suddenly come and hit from behind if they go on the cycling track. They are demanding the government to monitor the cycling tracks and make the city a better place for cycle enthusiasts.
