Hyderabad
While passing through Tank Bund road and NTR Marg, many would experience a repulsive smell emanating from the Hussainsagar lake. Speaking to the media, the HMDA (Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority) officials said that the drop of oxygen levels in the lake and soaring temperatures had resulted in the spread of thick algal blooms along the border of the Hussainsagar lake.
The officials also said that they would clear the lake as soon as possible by pressing machinery and men into action. According to them, this is a common issue during summer, especially when the temperature rises.
The rising temperatures and the partly-treated sewage that is let into the water body have led to the algal bloom, resulting in a sticky green layer over the water surface.
