Hyderabad
Think beer and is worried about calories that accumulate around the waist. An average Hyderabadi has become very health conscious these days, and well that spills into the beverages market too. Of course, Hyderabad already has many freshly brewed beers and boasts of a good market, but now the focus is on low-cal beers.
And the idea of low-calorie beers came about with two friends, Nagendra Tayi and Satya Siva Athi, who were not happy with what was being served. So the two friends who graduated in chemical engineering decided to do something about it. And now they are all set to introduce their signature Blockbuster beer in Hyderabad this summer.
Incidentally, it happens to be American Brew Crafts Private Limited’s newest beer. Having spent quite a few years in the US, the duo had tasted many varieties of beers and was totally dissatisfied with the quality of beers sold in India. In 2015, they had the idea of opening a brewery, and they took up a non-performing abandoned brewing unit in Sangareddy.
They imported machinery from Germany and turned it into a fully automated plant. In 2018, they started production of their first beer, and a year later, they opened another brewery in Andhra Pradesh and employed 300 people.
To cut a long story short, they toiled for days to get the right tastes and did a lot of trials. As there are many hops and yeasts, they had to take up a trial every 15 days. They say their beers now smell best even before tasting.
American Brew Crafts did a soft launch in 2021 when they sold about 50,000 crates. People loved it, and they recently had a grand launch. Soon, they are looking at launching a healthy wheat beer. Nagender and Satya say they will launch it this summer. Cheers!
