A strange situation is prevailing on the city roads. RTC buses do not stop where there are bus shelters and there are many places where there are no bus shelters. Passengers are always waiting for buses on the roads. Waiting for hours on high traffic roads without roofs on heads can be very annoying. It is said to be even worse during the summer.
At many places, Bus shelters have been removed and not re-installed as part of road widening. The problem seems to be due to the lack of coordination between RTC and GHMC. Passengers are questioning why the government is not providing the minimum facilities required by the passengers as they suffer in sun and rain. There are nearly a thousand bus stops throughout the City. 800 of them were handed over to ad agencies.
Except for a few, everything is just for namesake. There are no bus shelters in Kukatpally, JNTU, Dilsukhnagar, Shaikpet, Film Nagar, Dargah Road, Yousufguda and Erragadda. Some people occupy footpaths and set up shops on footpaths. As a result, passengers have to wait on roads for the buses. Shelters assigned to ad agencies are of no use to travelers. There are no benches to sit on in the existing shelters. AC bus stops are very few. There are no proper facilities in them and people have to stand outside. This will become a bigger problem as the temperatures are soaring.
