Traffic Joint CP Ranganath said there was a huge response to the discount offer on the traffic challans discount scheme. He told the media here on Friday that 1.85 crore traffic challans had been cleared so far and Rs 190 crore had been collected through challans. The discount scheme on challans can be availed till the 31st of this month.
The media asked him if there is a chance to extend the scheme. But the Joint CP clarified that there is no such idea, as of now. "There are challans worth 1,500 Crores. We are expecting that 60-70% of them will be cleared. Seven to ten lakh challans are getting cleared every day. The number will increase as the deadline is drawing closer," he said.
The Joint CP also added charge sheets would be filed from April if traffic rules were violated. "We have no plans to impose challans by setting targets. At the same time, we will do all that we can to make city roads a safe place for the citizens," Ranganath said. 60-70% of the 1500 Crore worth challans is like 900-1,050 Crore, which means the target is still very far. We will have to see what happens in the next few days.
