The price of Irani Chai, the most popular drink in Hyderabad, has gone up. From now on, a cup of Irani Chai will be available for Rs.20. Most cafes and hotels in the city have increased the price of a cup from Rs 15 to Rs 20. Hoteliers say prices have risen due to rising milk, tea, and sugar prices. Not only, Irani Chai, Zafrani tea price has also gone up by Rs 5.
Rising fuel and commercial cooking gas prices have also contributed to rates. Although some cafes and hotels have already raised prices, others may raise prices after the Ramadan season, a leading Cafe manager has said. Milk prices have risen due to rising input costs such as fuel, packaging, logistics, and livestock feed. Dairy companies like Amul, Parag, and Verka have hiked milk prices by Rs 2 a liter due to rising input costs.
The price of cooking gas is also increasing due to international conditions. So, the hike is inevitable to overcome the crisis. Although some are dissatisfied with the rise in prices, they are of the opinion that the rate hike may not have a big impact on the business. Before the pandemic, a full cup of Irani Chai costs Rs. 10 and single chai Rs. 8. The full cup price has gone up to Rs.15 due to the financial crisis faced during the lockdown in 2020. Since then the price has now risen again.
