Power consumption is gradually increasing along with the temperatures in Greater Hyderabad. The highest demand was 5.5 crore units in March last year, compared to 6.5 crore units in March this year. Demand is expected to pick up further from 7.8 crore units to 8 crore units in April and May, power officials said.
The peak hours of the power consumption daily are from 6 pm to 9 pm with a maximum demand of 3000 MW to 3300 MW. During the first week of March, it was 5.1 crore units (51 million units) and in the second week, it was 5.7 crore units, gradually increasing over the last four days to 6.5 crore units at once. Daytime temperatures are currently at 35-36 degrees and are likely to touch 39 degrees Celsius from Monday (today).
The temperatures are expected to rise further by the end of March. The Operations Director of TRANSCO said that in view of the high demand in April and May, additional transformers are being set up in Greater Hyderabad to provide a continuous and quality power supply. Officials said there was enough power available to meet the demand and the full focus was on supplying it.
