Contaminated water in the heart of the city is creating a stir. One person has died due to contamination of the drinking water supply supplied by the Water Board. Victims allege that water board staff ignored them when they were told that the drinking water had been stinking for a few days. Bheemaiah (27) died after drinking contaminated water in Vaddera Basti in Guttala Begumpet, Madhapur.
His two-year-old son fell seriously ill. Another 20 people are being treated at the hospital locally. The victim's family members expressed concern that their children had fallen unconscious due to drinking contaminated water. Media reports say that more than 200 people have fallen ill due to contaminated water supply in Langar Houz and Madhapur areas.
In the three colonies under the Langar Houz, there are victims in every household. All the victims are suffering from vomiting and diarrhea and are waiting in line at local medical shops and hospitals. Water Board officials finally woke up and conducted inspections in the respective areas. BJP and Congress leaders went to the respective colonies and spoke to the victims as one person died and hundreds fell ill. They demanded compensation to the family of the deceased and compensation to those who were being treated at the hospital due to negligence on the part of the authorities.
