AIG Hospitals, which made quite a few headlines during the pandemic, is once again in the news as it has recently launched its Wellness Centre aimed at giving personalized and precision medicine to people by analyzing a patient’s entire DNA. The facility was inaugurated by Health Minister T Harish Rao.AIG Wellness Centre will be offering a multi-disciplinary, holistic approach towards preventing health issues by analyzing the DNA.
AIG Hospitals chairman Dr. D Nageshwar Reddy shares, “At AIG, we would be studying an individual’s whole DNA. This will enable us to predict, to a fair degree of accuracy, the potential health risks that the individual may face in the future.”
Given that there is an alarming increase in lifestyle disorders, AIG feels its present initiative will be of huge help to the public. Dr. Reddy also adds that AIG will be using advanced diagnostic technologies to customize and bring out a thorough understanding of an individual’s current health concerns.
Minister Harish Rao lauded the efforts of the hospital in further enhancing the image of Hyderabad being a medical hub during his speech. “Hyderabad is becoming a global hub for medical tourism and with such advanced centers where not only high-quality treatment is provided, but it is backed by clinical research. I am sure it will create a benchmark in terms of patient care across the world,” he said.
AIG Wellness Centre will be using genome technology to precisely know the risk factors involved for diseases, response to certain drugs, allergies, diet, and nutritional requirements, among others. With all the information in hand, Dr. Reddy feels they can decide on specific tests, their frequency, customized diets, prescribe specific medicine, and in total, customize treatment for an individual. He says this is what is called personalized, precision medicine that can predict the occurrence of diseases at least five years in advance.
