The hijab controversy is shaking the neighboring Karnataka. The High Court upheld the ban on hijab by the educational institutes saying that the hijab is not an essential religious practice under Islam and, hence, it is not protected by Article 25 of the constitution setting out the fundamental right to practice one's religion.
There are people who say these controversies will damage Karnataka's investor-friendly image. Meanwhile, the Hijab row has hit Hyderabad as well. Hijab controversy erupted at Bahadur Pura Gautam School as well. The school management has banned hijab and burqa on the school premises.
Parents of students have expressed concern over the attitude of the school management. They have staged a protest on the school premises against the management saying that it is behaving like a right-wing agent. The school management informed the police about this. The police had to do a lathi-charge to control the situation. Many were injured during this. Reports are that the state government has taken this incident seriously.
