The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to conduct summer camps for children aged between April 25 and May 31. A variety of sports facilities for children aged between six and 16 years of age are being organized.
The entire process will mean an expenditure of Rs 1.42 crore, and as a part of the endeavor, sports equipment has been procured and distributed to the management of the playgrounds where the camps will be organized. The annual activity by the corporation to promote sports is being held after a gap of two years. It goes without saying; no camps were organized in the past two years due to COVID.

The first such camp will be inaugurated at Victory Playground, Chaderghat, on April 25. The civic body has made elaborate arrangements to run the camps efficiently. A sum of Rs 25 lakh was allotted for the renovation of Victory Playground and works such as repairs, painting, and procuring of furniture have been taken up. Another camp at PIR Stadium, Chandanagar, will be inaugurated on April 28.GHMC has also requested the state government to allow it to hire 131 extra coaches for the camps. At present, there are 78 coaches working for the civic body on a part-time basis. They are available at 12 sports complexes, seven swimming pools, and 521 playgrounds.
The annual sports program will return under the banner ‘Summer Coaching Camp 2022’, and GHMC will be offering training in 44 different sporting disciplines at 357 grounds in different parts of the city.
