City Traffic police have shifted their focus to the growing sound pollution in the city, especially from vehicles. They are in the process of procuring handheld devices that will instantly record the sound emitted by a vehicle. These devices are made with German technology and will be soon tested on a pilot basis.
"You vehicle is emitting more sound. Pay the required penalty and reduce the sound. Or the police will seize your vehicle" - messages like this are being sent to the vehicle owners. Several vehicle owners are replacing the original silencers with modified silencers and treat the noise they make as a status symbol. This may put an end to such menace.
These are handheld machines carried by traffic personnel at crossroads that will scan all passing vehicles. It will take a photo of the vehicle that caused the noise pollution and record the evidence of excessive noise coming from that vehicle. The city traffic police are studying equipment used in various states and other countries to curb noise pollution. It is in this context that the German technology machine was found to be yielding good results.
