Foreign airlines are trying to impress their customers with local languages. As part of this, British Airways has for the first time recruited 20 Telugu-speaking cabin crew for the Hyderabad-London service. British Airways said in a statement that the two of them had been fully trained and flew their first flight from Hyderabad to London on Saturday.
The airline operates 28 weekly services to London (Heathrow Airport) from 5 major cities across the country. These include Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, and Hyderabad. In 2019, it was decided to hire native speakers in cabin crews to operate flights to these cities. However, there was a delay due to COVID-19.
With the resumption of international services, the newly selected crew trained for six weeks in London on aviation safety and services. British Airways Chief Customer Officer Calum Laming said Telugu speakers would be members of the cabin crew on all Hyderabad-London flights. He said that hiring Telugu cabin staff means respecting the Telugu language, culture, and customs.
