The 2020 deluge is still fresh in the memory of the people of Hyderabad, and many are worried about the loss of property and lives as the monsoon season has started in Telangana. Once again, the city is witnessing heavy rains, and already there are instances of water logging and traffic jams. The IMD has sounded a red alert for parts of the state, those living in greater Hyderabad limits, especially in low-lying areas.Incidentally, MA &amp; UD minister has played safe by saying that some parts of the city will be facing issues as the works are still in progress. The state government came up with an elaborate plan of action with regards to storm drains, encroachments, trunk mains, feeder nalas, etc.Of the proposed 61 works, GHMC has taken up 37 stormwater drain works costing around Rs 747.45 crore under SNDP. The works include construction and laying of box drains, re-modeling and widening of stormwater drains, etc. The works are at various stages of execution, and a few of them will be completed by the end of this year.As a part of the pre-monsoon exercise, the civic body has identified 250-300 vulnerable points adjoining different nalas and covered the locations with safety meshes and installed signboards. To deal with emergency situations due to water logging and inundation of low-lying areas, GHMC will be deploying Monsoon Emergency Teams round the clock. Each of these teams will have Mobile Monsoon Emergency Teams, Mini Mobile Monsoon Emergency Teams, and Static Labour Teams.A total of 237 pump sets will be available in various circles of GHMC for dewatering of stagnated water as and when required. As many as 76 officers have been appointed as in-charges for 74 vulnerable points in LB Nagar, 32 for Charminar zone, 81 for Khairatabad, 52 for Serilingampally, 49 for Kukatpally, and 55 for Secunderabad zone.Despite all the measures, residents of Hyderabad are likely to face disruptions as the civic authorities, and state government officials come together to prepare for another monsoon season.

The murder of 25-year-old Shanivarapu Venkata Narayana Reddy by his wife's family has created a sensation among the media circles. Firstly, Ravali's father and family opposed the match, showcasing Narayan's social status as a demerit, but Ravali went ahead and married according to her wish, which led to hatred in the bridegroom's family.This decision of Ravali made her family plan the murder of her husband, Venkata Narayana Reddy. In the investigation, the cops tracked that to kill Venkata Narayana Reddy, Ravali's family fixed a deal of Rs 1.9 lakh, out of which Rs 50,000 was paid before, and the rest was given after the murder. The cops took Srinivasa Reddy, Kasi Rao, and Shaika Ashiq into custody and investigated the in-depth details. The twist in the tale is that both Venkateshwara Reddy and his son Chandrashekhar Reddy are still absconding.

New Breakfast Place That Is Creating Ripples in City

Beware, say, researchers, between 9 pm and 3 am as it is the time when heavy vehicles ply the roads. There have been multiple deaths during this period, and the issue has become such a cause of concern that a study has been carried out specifically for the purpose.The research carried out from the Birla Institute of Technology &amp; Science (BITS), Pilani, Hyderabad campus, has identified heavy motor vehicles and vehicle movement between 9 pm and 3 am as the most critical variables impacting fatal traffic collisions in Hyderabad.The crash data was obtained from the Hyderabad police department, and risk factors were classified into six categories. Recommended measures included providing a safe pedestrian crossing facility at intersections and adequate night-time illumination of roadway stretches, among others.The data was collected from 60 police stations where the highest number of crashes happened across Hyderabad between 2015 and 2019. A comprehensive database with road traffic injury information such as the date, time, and location of the crash, the number of injuries and fatalities, and vehicle details were developed as a part of the study.Data from the past couple of years was excluded as it is not consistent due to the pandemic. Risk variables are divided into six categories like very high risk, high risk, moderate risk, low risk, very low risk, and very low risk.Some solutions suggested by the study include safe pedestrian crossing facilities at crossings, pedestrian signals at intersections, suitable road markings, and traffic signage. Jaywalking, which leads to many deaths, will be avoided by the installation of pedestrian guardrails in strategic areas.Meanwhile, heavy-vehicle drivers will be educated about the safety of vulnerable road users through education and training initiatives.

Most Dangerous Time To Drive in Hyderabad

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has had its cash registers ringing for the past three months, with property tax collection racing towards Rs 1000 crore, which is a record collection for the first quarter of any fiscal year.Between April and June, the civic body collected a record Rs 929.22 crore from property tax. The tax was collected from 9,08,341 assessments, and by the end of July, the collections will cross the Rs 1000 crore mark.In fact, within five days, Rs 6.13 crore had been collected. There is a visible jump in GHMC’s property tax collections compared to the first quarter of previous years. From April to June 2020, the tax collected was Rs 682 crore, while in 2021, it was Rs 620 crore.In April this year, Rs 741.35 crore was collected under GHMC’s Property Tax Early Bird Scheme, while Rs 71.45 crore was collected in May. In June, Rs 116.42 crore was collected, taking the total to Rs 929.22 crore.Incidentally, on April 28, when the Property Tax Early Bird Scheme was underway, over Rs 50 crore was collected, which is, to date, the highest tax collected in a single day. Property owners availed of the scheme by paying online by visiting the GHMC website, through GHMC Citizen Services Centres, MeeSeva Centres, and bill collectors. The highest tax collection was from the Serilingampally circle, followed by Jubilee Hills and Khairatabad.One reason for high tax collection was the fact that many businesses recovered post-pandemic, and they could make payments online.

Windfall for GHMC In Terms Of Property Tax

Hyderabad police, in their primary investigation, found that with a target to loot valuables worth more than seven lakh, Burglars chose five houses at Kuntloor, Hayathnagar, and finished their work on Tuesday and Wednesday.Cops tracked the interstate gang with the help of a video clip found on a surveillance cam. Reportedly, a set of persons with hand tools entered four locked houses at a gated community named Prajay Gulmohar and looted cash and gold items.Reports say that the gang had targetted the looted houses and finished work in two days. The incident came to light after the respective flat owners returned on Thursday. After receiving a written complaint, the cops started an investigation and gathered clues. As per the cops' version, two years back, 'Chaddi Gang' had made similar attempts and even attacked the residents in residential colonies on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
