Some get lost in despair and a few others rise to the occasion and do the needful during challenging times. The story of 30-year-old engineering graduate Mannan Khan is one of inspiration and courage.
Like many caught up with COVID blues, Mannan decided to do something about the situation. During the initial days of the pandemic, Mannan tried to help struggling families. Then he shifted his focus to find and work together with frontline workers like doctors and policemen.
Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, known for providing free services to patients was one of his first collaborators. Given the resources he had and whatever he could obtain from friends and family, Mannan reached out to doctors, policemen, pharmacists, journalists, singers, with the sole objective of keeping them in high spirits so that they could take up the challenge of handling corona. Obviously, the doctors were on top of his list.
As the lockdown process began, Mannan decided to recognize the services of voluntary organizations that worked tirelessly during COVID times. He identified around 25 NGOs and their efforts were lauded.
His football club Deccan Blasters, which organized a match for para-footballers in November, was used to train youngsters in football during the pandemic times. Mannan also took the appointment of the Police Commissioner of the city from his busy schedule and felicitated him for the efforts that the police put forth during the stressful times.
His goal was to recognize the services of ‘city protector heroes’ for their sacrifices and their tremendous efforts to remain reachable and friendly during the pandemic.
During the past few months, Mannan also organized Aawaz Ke Sikander, a show with 20 singers who were selected online. Of them, 10 were awarded and his efforts got national recognition.
But that’s not all. Mannan totally believes in fitness and encourages youth to adopt a healthy lifestyle. He also simultaneously ran a campaign to make sure that youth stopped using apps like PUBG and Tik Tok.
