Mahipal Reddy, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of KPHB police station, who was injured on Sunday night in road rage at a drunk driving checkpoint at KPHB, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. It was confirmed by the police that he was declared dead at around 1 AM on Wednesday.
Through Cyberabad police's initiative for organ donation 'Maro Janma', his family members have given permission to donate his organs for the Jeevandan organ transplantation program. An accident case was registered, initially, but now police are likely to alter the charges and investigation is going on in full swing.
ASI Mahipal Reddy was the NRO (Night Round Officer) on that unfortunate night who came to the drunk driving checkpoint to inspect the car which was damaged and the driver Srujan tried to escape the checks. A cab moving at a high speed rammed into Reddy, while he was inspecting the vehicle, resulting in his fall. He suffered from severe injuries on the head and a fracture on the left leg. It was found that he also is having internal bleeding, initially.
The driver of the car, Srujan, meanwhile, whose vehicle first ran amok was tested for drunk driving and he recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 174 mg dl in the breath analyzer test.
The car also hit another woman passenger of another car waiting at the checkpoint, and also another vehicle, injuring a home guard.
