According to the latest developments, the victims of Cybercrime in the city will not have to go all the way to a cybercrime police station to lodge a complaint, as the local police stations have been empowered to register the same.
So that action can be taken promptly., the Hyderabad Police has initiated the process in this regard to help victims immediately approach the police. Previously, the cybercrime victims, including sexual harassment, online harassment, financial fraud, communal content, and other cybercrime offenses, had to visit the city's Cybercrime Police Station at Basheerbagh. The police are now taking complaints at the local police stations, after realizing the difficulties and the delay in reporting the crime.
According to ACP, Cybercrime department, KVM Prasad, if a victim loses less than Rs 1 lakh to cyber fraudsters, to make a complaint, they can visit the local police station. Accordingly, action would be initiated by the local police, and the case investigation would also be done. Considering the phenomenal increase in cybercrime cases in the last few years, this decision was also taken.
The reports suggest that the cases of cybercrime are expected to go north further due to the rampant use of mobile phones, tabs, laptops, computers for office work and financial transactions.
So far, these cases were booked at Mahankali, Mirchowk, OU, Lalaguda, and other police stations in the city.
The ACP also added that an officer of the Inspector rank will be investigating the case if the case is booked under the IT Act. Depending upon the seriousness of the case, if the sections of the IPC are invoked, either a Sub-Inspector or the Inspector himself will investigate the case.
