Covid19 has been a tough time for families and communities as the second wave caused a massive loss of lives, and also, many people are still trying to recover from the effect of illnesses like black fungus and depression. In such tough times, con men and cybercriminals made the most out of people and looted money or robbed people with a promise to provide them with covid care resources or hospital beds and life-saving drugs.
While the above criminal activities became standard throughout the second wave, a couple went the other way at TIMS hospital and stole jewelry from the admitted patients. The police recently arrested the couple for robbing gold from the state facility at Gachibowli. The target of the couple was to target the unconscious people in the hospital. Raju and his wife Lathasri were employees of TIMS and were a part of the patient care ward.
The couple noticed a high surge of patients during the second wave and saw many patients admitted with gold ornaments. The couple knew fully well the condition of every patient and used to steal while one of the two would keep a watch of the surroundings. The couple used to mortgage the stolen jewelry with Muthoot finance and sold some in Attica gold company and Jagadama Jewellers in Jagagirigutta and spent the remaining money.The couple was arrested trying to sell some more Jewelry and was interrogated by Gachbowli police with the officials to whom they sold these ornaments and were booked under Section 380 IPC.
