On the pretext of arranging a purchase of the kidneys for Rs 1.20 crore, a couple from Hyderabad was duped of Rs 40 lakh by the Cyber fraudsters. The police report suggests that this Hyderabad-based couple took several loans to the tune of around one crore around a year ago to set up business in the city. However, the couple suffered huge losses as the business did not pick up due to the COVID-induced lockdown.
According to the Hyderabad Cybercrime officials, the couple started looking out for persons who were in need of kidneys, as a means to come out of the losses and repay the loans. After searching a number, a person contacted them who assured to facilitate the kidneys sale for Rs 1.20 crore.
On various instances, the man collected around Rs 40 lakhs from the couple on the pretext of getting some clearance done for the kidney donation. For a few days, however, the fraudster did not take calls and switched off his mobile phone.
