Eighty-three children, including girls, were rescued from various places across the city due to the combined efforts of Hyderabad city police, Women Development and Child Welfare Department, and Sweta Mohanty, the collector of Hyderabad.
The reports suggest that the children were from Gulbarga, Karnataka. The kids have been safely returned to their parents after a thorough DNA check-up and counseling.
The investigation is going on to nab the gang that was behind the abduction of these children and was responsible for pushing these kids into begging and child labor trafficking. The general sentiment among the public is that this begging needs to be criminalized; only then the menace of forcing kids into begging rackets can be stopped.
