Law enforcement and excise officials have switched their focus on making drug busts at the airport to specific locations in the city that have been silently catering drugs to the entire city for years and looking at ways to end that business or racket or whatever that is called.
A small awareness program was held at Dhoolpet, titled 'Nasha Mukt Hyderabad,' which aims to create awareness against the consumption of drugs for a better city and a better future. The campaign was quite effective as it led to the arrest of three drug peddlers.
Hyderabad Police, who organized this program, explained that the future of this city and state is wholly misled by contraband sold to hundreds of students in this area and said that it needs to stop soon and that the police will do everything towards achieving it. City commissioner Anjani Kumar presided over this meeting which saw 250 people intending to motivate the youth against drugs.
While this event was happening and, on the same day, the police arrested three members of a gang that supplied hash oil and ganja to a group of tourists and adults. A regular informer tipped off the police, and they reached Santoshnagar, apprehended the gang, and recovered 20 ml of hash oil and 600 grams of ganja from them. The police have found that these arrested men have a past history of drug peddling and few petty crimes.
