Hyderabad
Cyberabad police are maintaining strict vigil on Drunk and Drive to prevent road accidents. They have registered a record of 35,000 cases in ten months. The department is conducting special Drunk and Drive inspections and has recovered Rs 5.5 crore as a penalty.
To date, four thousand people have been jailed by the courts for jail terms ranging from one day to 20 days, depending on the percentage of alcohol they drank, their business style, and their ability to pay fines. Some were fined as well as imprisoned. By the end of the year, the total fines are estimated to be 10 crores Rupees.
Despite a large number of cases being registered and fines being imposed, there is still no change in the people and the cases continue to increase every month. A survey in the road accidents of all three commissionerates of Hyderabad has revealed that the highest percentage of road accidents currently occurring are due to alcohol intoxication and speeding / dangerous driving.
