It is well-known that a man attacked aspiring actress Shalu Chaurasia in KBR Park last Sunday. However, as there were no CCTVs in the area, there was no visual of the culprit who had also stolen the actress’ mobile apart from hurting her mildly. So, the police had to double their hunt and expand their search to identify the person. Finally, they took out the list of all chain snatchers in the city and followed various clues, and finally arrested the person who attacked Shalu. Both the police and task force officials got into the act and finally managed to trace the culprit, now recognized as Kommuri Babu (21).
Though the actress had minor bruises, she was shaken, and the whole incident rattled all those who regularly walk at KBR Park in the morning.
According to his past record, Babu came to Hyderabad about four years back and was doing small works here and there. Finally, he got into the job of erecting sets for films. However, as his daily wages were meager, he would indulge in petty crimes now and then.
During one such attempt, Babu stole the cell phone of Shalu Chaurasia. He later revealed that he targeted KBR Park as most people there would not go to the extent of complaining to the police for a mere mobile phone loss. This is why he stated that he committed the crime on November 14.
Incidentally, about 50 police were deployed to track the person who stole Shalu’s mobile. In 2019 December, a similar incident was reported under Golconda PS, where a girl’s mobile was stolen by Babu. Recollecting the incident and tracking data, Task Force DCP (OND), Radhakishan Rao, instructed his team to trace Babu.
Following this, Babu was arrested from Indira Nagar in Banjara Hills. While 80 percent of the tracking was done using traditional methods, 20 percent was by making use of technology.
