The government has extended timings for bars, pubs, and liquor shops to serve liquor up to 1 AM on December 31 and January 1, 2022. But at the same time, police resort to drunk and drive checks every nook and corner on New Year's eve. Even after knowing that, tipplers come out with their vehicles after merrily drunk.
A total of 3,146 drunk and drive cases were registered under the three commissionerates, the police said. 1,258 cases were registered in Hyderabad Commissionerate, 1,528 in Cyberabad Commissionerate, and 360 in Rachakonda Commissionerate. Police conducted inspections with 265 teams under the purview of these commissionerates.
During a drink-and-drive check in Jubilee Hills, fifty people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Forty bikes, seven cars, and auto were seized. A young woman made a huge commotion near KBR Park by not cooperating with drink and drive checks. She was abusing the police and fellow commuters. The girl was taken into custody and shifted to Banjara Hills Police Station.
