A cyclist, Nithin Agarwal, seriously injured on Friday when a car hit him at Serlingampally in Gachibowli, died while undergoing treatment here on Saturday.
Nithin (44), a software employee, and his two friends, Rajeev and Suchith Srivatsav, started from their homes on their bicycles to take up a 100-km cycle ride. As per the police, the trio cycled through Gachibowli, Anjaiah Nagar, Botanical Garden, and HCU. As they reached Paala Pitta Cycling Park, a Maruti Swift Dzire car driven by Shashank Shankar hit Nithin's cycle. Due to the impact, the victim sprung in the air and fell in the bushes on the roadside. Nithin suffered severe bleeding injuries and was shifted to a Gachibowli's private hospital. His condition was extremely critical, and he died on Saturday.
The Gachibowli cops had earlier booked a case of negligence causing injuries, but now they are preparing to alter the section to that of culpable homicide, not murder. This is because they suspect Shashank was driving under alcohol's influence.
The investigation revealed that Shashank and Maanav are residents of Masjid Banda who work as cabin crew in an airliner. They allegedly had a liquor party at Shashank's house and another friend Srikanth and then ventured on a joy ride in their car searching for an eatery.
They were proceeding towards Botanical Garden when Shashank lost control of the steering wheel and hit Nithin, who was on his cycle. The car then crashed into a nearby tree.
The Gachibowli police booked a case and took up the investigation based on Suchith Srivatsav.
