Asifnagar police have arrested a gang kidnapping people in Telugu states, taking inspiration from a crime story in a web series. The details were revealed on Tuesday by city police commissioner CV Anand, along with West Zone DCP Joel Davis. Gunjapogu Suresh alias Surya from Bhojagutta is the brother of Gunjapogu Sudhakar, a notorious thief. There have been 14 cases against Suresh in the past for various offenses. He was arrested by Miyapur police in December 2019 and released from jail in February 2020.
Inspired by the Money Heist web series on Netflix, Suresh hired people to commit crimes. He aspires to become a kidnapping don as in the web series. As part of this, Rohit from Bhojagutta, Induri Jagadish, K. Kunal, and Shwetachari alias Sweety from Jagadgirigutta were hired. The kidnapper used a Pajero car AP09BR4786.
The gang picks the rich. Swethachari introduces herself to the chosen ones under the name of Sweety. She chats for some days and attracts them. She talks on video calls during the day and the phone stays with Suresh at night. The calls are not attended in the night. After chats for some days like this, Sweety asks them to meet somewhere. The gang is already there waiting. They kidnap the targeted persons and make WhatsApp calls to the victim's family members to demand money. They use hotspots to make calls and the mobile is kept on flight mode to avoid tracking.
They got nabbed after they kidnapped a man named Prashant In Gudimalkapur on the 5th of this month. They have admitted to kidnapping six people in both the Telugu states and made fifty lakhs from the victims. No cases were registered as people were embarrassed about the girl angle in these cases.
