More than five women have lodged complaints at Gachibowli police station alleging that they were cheated by Telugu actor Naresh’s estranged wife Ramya Raghupathi by luring them of huge returns on their investments.
The women claimed that Ramya promised them 20% returns within six months on their investments under a ‘Group Income Scheme.’ Ramya took them into confidence by telling them that she was the daughter of a powerful former Minister in Andhra Pradesh.
While police started probing the allegations, senior actor Naresh also approached them stating that he separated from Ramya a long time ago and has no information of the frauds she committed. He distanced himself from Ramya's activities in the name of investment schemes.
According to K Shilpavalli, DCP Madhapur, Ramya is alleged to have duped the women to the tune of over Rs 40 lakh. The victims say that they met Ramya through a common friend, and she introduced herself as the daughter of a former minister and actor Naresh’s wife.
She told the women that she was the owner of many hotels in Bengaluru and also ran an NGO. However, she did not return their investment, and when they pressurized her, she issued blank cheques which bounced in the bank. When the victims later approached her, Ramya threatened them with dire consequences.
The victims told the cops that a few days ago, they met Naresh and explained their situation. The senior actor reportedly expressed shock at her activities and clarified that they had been separated for a while. When those women informed Ramya’s mother, she also told them that her daughter was no longer living with her husband and was not physically or mentally sound.
