Think of a whole load of FMCG items from shampoos to oils to bakery items to beverages, prepared meals, etc., basically all that one uses on a daily basis. Now, if you were told that there are fake FMCG goods in the market, doesn’t that surprise you? Well, but that’s the latest scam in the market, and these incidents happen in semi-urban and rural areas. It’s only now that activists are making people aware of this scam and working with officials.
In fact, the network is so strong that the duplicates are exactly the same as the original product, and the fake companies are using the same holograms and logos as the original ones to cheat people. Usually, people in semi-urban and rural areas earn their money and go to the nearby local store to purchase their groceries.
In most cases, even the local shopkeepers are unaware of this scam and sell products supplied to them by the distributors. It is the distributors who take high commissions and supply fake FMCG products to the local shops.
While this has been going on for a while, it is only now that the activists are working hard to stop the culprits in the supply chain, as fake products can be severely hazardous. The cops, on their part, have raided the godowns based on complaints and caught some culprits.
But like drugs, one needs to be aware of such fake products so that he or she can question the seller and double-check the product before using it.
