After the many scams that have been hitting ordinary citizens, finally, it’s time for cybercriminals to wrap up their activities. Hyderabad, being the home of IT, a growing young and enthusiastic army of cyber warriors, is training hard to fight those responsible for crimes in the cyber world.

The initiative has been named Digital Literacy to Secure Youth (DiLSey) and is already a hit among schools with youth sessions conducted by the Cyberabad Police and Society for Cyberabad Security Council. They are presently training over 12,000 students on digital literacy to date.

The whole idea is to build an army of cyber warriors from among children and youth to fight cybercrime. Cyberabad police commissioner M Stephen Raveendra shares, “The best way to counter these crimes is to educate the masses and create awareness. An initiative like this is perhaps the first in the country. It is the youth for the youth movement for a secured digital world.”

It goes without saying, the response to the initiative has been huge. The training consists of two sessions on weekends. While the initial training will be a physical one, the next session is an online one followed by an offline one. Recently, the first batch has been trained, and they are busy educating targeted sections on cybercrimes on social media, online apps, games, fraudulent links, and smartphone addiction, among others.

The Cyberabad police have a Cybercrime Control Room, and they request the volunteers to keep sharing cyber-crime-related incidents instantly to control the crimes faster. Meanwhile, the cyber police have requested the public to be cautious and not fall for risky, high yield returns schemes, not to download doubtful apps or share personal data that could get into the wrong hands.

To help the initiative, Doordarshan has a dial-in program on cybercrimes in the mornings, and Cyberabad police and SCSC cyber security experts have been answering public questions. And those interested in becoming volunteers can write to SCSC at crm@scsc.in or call 9177283831.

SCSC is also open to conducting sessions at hospitals, gated communities, factories, manufacturing units, housing communities, colleges, etc. They can be reached at cybersec@scsc.in or ad@scsc.in.
