One of the oldest Polytechnic colleges in the city Kamala Nehru Polytechnic College for Women (KNWPC), is struggling to run its premises as it is on the verge of being shut down and converted into a private engineering facility in a petition signed by the students on Change.org.
The Exhibition Society runs the college in the Numaish Exhibition Grounds at Nampally and denied rumors of the college being shut down or converted into a different facility. The reason for the claim of it being shut down grew stronger because this college wasn't featured in the list of Polytechnic colleges by the Telangana Department of Education this year.
The society just recently discontinued five diploma courses. It converted two sources into self-financed courses to claim that the core courses became outdated and needed to update them. The students have rubbished this claim by the society. The Exhibition Society remarked that the closure is the lack of funds to run the college.
The petition titled 'Save Kamala Nehru Polytechnic College' responded by stating that society earns crores of rupees by having a great exhibition each year at the same premises but running short of money to aid the college. The petition also criticized the plans by the government like Shaadi Mubarak and Kalyan Lakshmi schemes which promote the wedding of women more than quality education and growth. This petition has more than 2000 signatures and is viral on social media as well
