In what is quite appropriate for the current generation of aspiring IT professionals, IIIT-H has launched an online course based on the foundations of machine learning. The target audience happens to be undergraduate engineering students. The 50-week long program was launched on Monday by Prof J Narayanan, director of IIIT-H.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Narayanan said that IIIT-H has been around for 23 years, and it has produced students and scholars who performed exceptionally well across the globe in fields of artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, computer vision, natural learning processing, and other allied domains.
The program has attracted people from all over the country and has a good gender mix along with people from various socio-economic backgrounds. The professor also called upon students to make use of the teachers and teaching associates during the course period. He also reiterated that students must explore the subject to the extent that they can take up research in the area in the future.
Prof Jawahar, who happens to be the Dean (R&D), IIIT-H and Smart Mobility Head, IHub Data, further added that though there were a plethora of online courses offered by good universities, there was nevertheless a dearth of professionals in machine learning who could solve industry problems or take up research problems.
He added that the pedagogy for the online program was designed to provide more human-to-human interaction between learners and mentors.
